TWO SEATS ON A PRIVATE FLIGHT AVAILABLE OUT OF EL PASO - FEB. 12 - 16 -
CALL IF YOU ARE INTERESTED

Feb 4 – There are many great stories we could tell you about this past week fishing at Huites, but this one stands out: Gale Vaught and Roger Matthews both from Missouri had a day on the water yesterday that was nothing short of outstanding. They caught a total of 361 fish – the biggest fish being 8.15 lbs. and described an incredible number of fish over 3 lbs. Fishing up near the railroad tracks throwing against the rock walls with medium-running white Bill Dance crank baits, along with solid white willow leaf ½ oz. spinner baits, their comment was: "you could almost catch a fish every cast."
We predict many more great stories to come. Over the last ten days, we have been plagued with wind, rain and cold weather but the fishing has been red hot!
February 1 - Jay Morton and his wife, Nancy, are having excellent results - caught a 10.1 trophy and averaging 100 fish per day.
Jeff Pope and John Lawson continue to have a great trip - caught over 280 fish yesterdy, mosly all on white crankbaits.
Roger Matthews and Gale Vaught are just killing them on swimbaits and spinnerbaits averaging 135 a day with a good number of 4 to 6 lb. bass.
January 30 - Jeff Pope and John Lawson, a couple of wildcats from Kentucky, are just creating all kinds of problems for the fish at Huites! They are averaging 150 fish a day in the boat, up to 8 lbs. with the best fish coming off the banks with large and medium crankbaits - white and green.
We also have John Stafford and his group fishing the creek channels with white/pearl wacky style Senkos which is producing up to 7 lbs. We are getting very good numbers at Huites and someday soon hope to see some real trophies pulled from the lake.
Come and see us at Lake Huites Lodge and let us help you arrange a private landing near the lake!
January 25 - Bob Schriewer and Jerry Ballard just returned from the lake via private air out of Choix and John Owens and Jeff Pope just got to the lodge also via private air into Choix - a great way to get to the lake! Excellent, excellent fishing! It's off the charts with 4, 5, 6 and 7 lbers caught in the canyons in 12 to 14 feet of water on Senkos and crank baits. Extreme weather did force us to close down the lodge on the 23rd of January due to very high winds and almost monsoon type rains.
Jan 15th
Good numbers and quality.Huites is hot right now...if you looking a for a special deal see our special page
With the water slightly stained over most of the lake the fishing continues to be excellent up the canyons and near the railroad tracks. Dark colored crankbaits and watermelon/golden lizzards working excellent. Mullent colored swimbaits, along with Pearl coloredswimbaits seem to catch the bigger fish.
NOTE: our planes are landing at Choix just 40 minutes from Lake Huites Lodge and we do have a group landing on Monday the 18th

Good numbers and quality. Huites is hot right now...if you looking a for a special deal see our special page
Insane quality as described by Shane Ryal who recently visited Lake Huites Lodge From SHane " Here are a couple of the better fish from Huites, we didn’t get any giants but the overall quality was insane. "
From Bob Moresin "Catch em until you are just worn out" Landing at Choix just 40 minutes from the Lodge is a real treat. We departed Dallas at 07:30 am Cst and we were having lunch at your lodge at 1200 noon MSt.
From Ed Farsen "Been to all the big Lakes and have never seen so many 2 to 7 pound bass in one body of water "
From Manuel and Nalrin Salazar: Overall excellent with the canyons holding the bigger fish with the humps in front Taco Paco producing an excellent afternoon bite. The two long points at La Cruz producing big fish deep on Texas rigged senkos, catching 150 fish right now is no problem

2010 could not be starting out any better! In 1997, I was lucky enough to fish the lake and thought I'd never see that kind of fishing duplicated on Lake Huites, but for some unknown reason, Santa Claus has given us plenty of fish to keep us entertained at Lake Huites. The recent group returning reported the same kind of fishing I had back in 1997 - hundreds of 5 to 7 lb. bass, anchored down across points and in the middle of creek channels and never moving from one location and catching bass after bass after bass.
Canyon Number Two produced in excess of 50 fish over 6 lbs. in two short hours, according to Mexico's top guide, Manuel Salazar. We can only assume that from this day forward, fishing is only going to get better this spring. Come see us!

We fished Lake Huites on the 28th: The Lake is in good condition and the numbers caught seem to be coming back strong along with a good mix of fish in the 6 to 7 pound range Looking out 2 more weeks the fishing should be excellent and the dirty water has all but disappeared.
Hurricane slams Lake Huites!!!! Due to the Hurricane we are asking all bookings in October of 2009 to transfer to Lake Baccarac Lodge. Lake Huites has turned muddy with the huge run=off from the most recent hurricane. We will be on a wait and see about the fishing conditions..

Manual made his way to the Lodge the couple of days and found all things in good order and while at the Lodge was on the water 2 days and now has the following report:
The lake is way down for this time of year but could receive lots of water during the month. Manual found the fish to be very active around the Lodge and up the Rio Furete with Big Crankbaits ( Norman DB 22 ) with over 40 bass caught in the Reforma Cove up to 6 pounds. The worn bite worked very well for guide Ernesto _ he was using 9 inch purple Slider worms. Manual report each day yielded 50 to 60 bass up to 6 pounds.

Jim Weathers, Sam Timmerman, Casey Dean and I fished Huites from April 15-18. In the four days we probably caught 250-300 bass per boat ranging from little one pounders up to 7 lbs. Most of the fish were in the 2-4 pound range. No real big fish but lots of quality fish. There was usually a good morning topwater bite using chrome and black chug bugs. White and chartreuse spinner baits as well as chatterbaits also worked well early in the morning. Later in the morning as well as throughout the day the white fluke bite was really good. They also bit good on watermelon red lizards as well as baby bass and white senko's. The bigger fish were caught in the afternoon on deep diving crank baits in the citrus shad color. There were some good fish caught on swim baits as well. The chrome and blue rattle trap bite was also good in the afternoon. Make sure it is the 3/4 oz size as that was the size the fish preferred. Find shady cliffs in the afternoon and throw the trap. You'll catch fish. As expected the food was great, and the staff, especially Manuel and Tachi did a great job of taking care of us.

Feb 25th The weather has turned very hot this week but we are still managing to catch good numbers of fish in the cooler canyons. Spinnerbaits and swimbaits producing the best numbers of bass it really looks like topwater action is starting to take hold according to Manual Salazar . ..
FEB 24th Steve Chimes reported 125 bass today with the biggest fish 8.9 and many good 5 pound bass . The best producing bait was salt pepper KUT TAIL fished wacky style along 5 inch Storm Swim baits . The structure near the damn is holding the bigger fish according to Steve
The lake was red hot last week at the beginning of the week but did not produce much of anything on Thursday, Friday Saturday ...But Sunday and Monday the true form of Huites was back alive with several 8 pound fish caught and numbers topping 100 fish per boat. The warmer weather has made the days near perfect.

Feb. 20 and 21 - Fishing was very slow these two days, with most boats only catching 65 fish per day.
From the lodge, Feb. 19: Excellent results, fish over 10 lbs. being caught on white spinnerbaits by Peter Riley while filming Aaron Outdoors TV show. The fishing continues to get better.
February 15 report: Jeff Pope's group returning from a fantastic adventure at Lake Huites Lodge, fishing six days. Even with back-to-back cold fronts, Jeff reports catching betwen 80 and 120 fish per day. Areas toward the dam are hodling the bigger fish. Although Jeff'e group struggled to get any real trophies, they did manage and reported several fish 6 to 7 lbs. Mike Knight's big group had the advantage at the lodge this week - they were lucky enough to corral Manuel Salazar as their guide and reported several fish over 8 lbs. with unbelievable numbers caught during the day. Five inch swimbaits and five inch Senkos produced the best. Fish continue to be moving up for the spawn and the catch rates for topwater will only increase for the next two to three weeks.
From Feb. 10 - The fishing at Huites remains fantastic! 6 inch Storm pearl swimbaits producing all of the big fish. Terry Hollan personally caught four over 7 and four over 8 on Feb. 9 on the two hours he was out on the lake. Mike Roberts group catching between 80 and 100 fish per day per boat, 1/2 oz. white spinnerbaits working well in the canyons and the best action in the LaCruz and the aquarium area of the lake. Average size fish is 3 lbs., fish up to 10 lbs. being caught.

Feb 3rd to Feb 5th THe very cool mornings have really excited the bass and have made for some really red hot topwater action. Fishing with Pop'rs and spittin images the topwater bite has been very good in the canyons. With the lodge full of clients the last several weeks we have had many happy faces returning from there trips. Most boats catching 70 to 150 a day with many mid size bass caught evryday and someone has been touching the 10 pound mark almost every session.
6 inch Storm SWimbaits have produced the bigger fish which have come from a little deeper water. 1/2 oz white spinnerbaitsand critus SHad crankbaits have produced the best numbers.
Jan 25 th Feb3rd
Absolutely incredible results from Lake Huites!
We have always expected lots of numbers when we fish at Huites but now, we have unbelievable numbers and great size. Jeff Avery caught 17 fish over 9 lbs during his five-day trip to Lake Huites. Venny Della Pello broke the 10 lb. mark. Rick Zugschwerdt had an incredible trip - countless numbers of 5 to 9 lb. fish. Boats are easily catching 80 to 120 fish per day, more 5, 6 , 7 and 8 lb. fish than we have ever seen come from this lake. Topwater fishing in the canyons is currently at a premium and every indication looks like the fishing will only improve. It is absolutely necessary, if you have the opportunity, to fish Lake Huites this season. Please note: there are many opportunities for groups of two to fly directly to Choix over the next several weeks. I hope to see you at the lake!

We had 1 fish 10.2lbs, we also had 2 fish over 9lbs and 5 over 8lbs and probably 60 or 70 fish over 6lbs. We caught approx 75 to 100 fish per day. Most of the big fish came on crank baits(DD22) and 6" and 7" swim baits in 25 to 30ft of water. This has been our best trip to Mexico bass fishing. The lodge was great and the staff was incredible. All the guides knew the Lake well and put us on fish every day!! Thanks again see ya next year. Troy Crochet

Customer comment from Gale Vaught
Terry & Staff -
I can not express how great of a time that we all had on our fishing trip. The fishing, Lodging, Food and Staff is all first class. Everything was amazing. I would be more than happy to be a reference to how wonderful everything is there. Terry is easy to work with and very honest. I don't think I could find a place to match it. The last trip we went on, I caught 35- over 7 lbs and at the largest a 10.2 lb. Also, impressed with the Salazer Family that runs the camps. Been at your camp 3 times in a year and wishing to make it 4 times this year! Thanks for a great trip... Look forward to seeing you soon. Gale Vaught's Group
Also please make Note: We have several openings for groups of two on the direct flights to Choix please call our office for dates
report from Neal Ford ....he just returned
Hi Terry,
We had another great trip to Lake Huites. The lodge and food was great, and the staff and guides were excellent. We caught 110 in our boat each day. We had 3 fish over 7 pounds and several 5 and 6 pound bass. The thing that we noticed this year was that we hardly caught any fish under 1 pound. The small fish that we were catching were 2 pounds, and they can pull the rod out of your hand if you aren't careful. It really is amazing how hard these fish can fight. Our best baits were watermelon seed lizards, flukes fished with a small crimp weight 6 inches above the hook, Senkos fished wacky rigged, and small and medium 'citrus shad' crank baits. The highlight of the trip came the last day when half our fish were caught on top water baits. A chrome chug bug with an orange belly was our best bait. We are excited to come back next year. Thank you again for a great trip.-Neal

What a week at Lake Huites. Lots a great action with also lots of great size compared to the recent years past. We just filmed a TV series with HOOK TV , what a show it will be. Gale Vaught a friend and long time client landed 35 bass over 7 pounds on camera with a nice 10.2 being the largest. Myself, Manual Salazar and 2 others caught an incredible 68 fish the last 2 hours of daylight on Jan 16th, 2009 . The footage filmed during show will be unreal. Everything in the tackle box worked including numerous fish caught using a fly rod. I built Lake Huites Lodge back 1997 and have had many great days fishing this body of water. The two days filming this show Jan 15th and Jan 16th will rank as high as any of them. Storm 6 inch swimbaits worked best for the bigger fish with spinnerbaits, white 4 inch flukes produced the numbers. Our favorite place on the Lake called the aquarium is once again loaded with bass!!! Make a trip to Huites,,,,,you will very pleased!!
Jan 20th 2009 report from the Lodge: Canyon number 2 producing excellent numbers using 1/2 white spinnerbaits and 5 inch white super flukes. We are actually starting to show great topwater in the canyons. Mike Aaron (sp) caught 4 fish over 8 pounds in canyon number 1 using 7 inch pearl senkos. Boats are catching between 70 and 130 fish a day. Jan 22nd report from the Lodge Once again great action in the canyons and around the Tacopoco area. Yum's swimshad has been the hottest bait on the water. Also deepdriving Bomber crankbaits white/green. The fish are in the back of the coves with the spawn ready to get in full action.
THe mornings are very cool but warming up very nicely The water is stained over most of the lake.

Absolutely fantastic action! Groups are just doing outstanding! We have not been this excited about the fishing results at Huites since 1999, with unbelievable numbers and fish up to 10 lbs. You need to come and experience Lake Huites. Recent groups fishing both in the Rio Fuerte River and up in El Diablo Canyon landing 50 to 100 fish per session. Yes, we are still getting plenty of small fish but just an incredible amount of 7, 8 and 9 lb. bass. We have seen a few fish over 10, obviously not the monster bass we see at Lake Baccarac, but the numbers of quality fish right now makes up for the smaller of the big bass catches. Topwater in the morning with Rico Poppers, 4 inch flukes, and senkos in the canyons, along with white and chartreuse spinnerbaits producing very well, the bigger bass being caught on 4 inch swimbaits. We are very excited about the fishing at Huites and we hope you take this opportunity to come and see us!

THe fishing has been excellent but the Lake has risen 15 ft since the passing of the recent Hurricane ....... The lake is currently at %95 and is starting to get ready for an explosion of action. We fished from Oct 26th to Nov 1st and had mixed results but overall fishing at Huites is what you would expect ...Lots of action with fish up to 9 pounds Most fish being caught on shallow running Rapala crankbait in Baby Bass color. I fished a couple of afternoons with Tachi and Perla Salazar and had excelent results up the Rio Furete way past the reforma. The canyons alo produced great numbers of fish on Firetiger crankbaits. I truly think that over the next couple of weeks fishing at Huites will go nuts on topwater.

What can I say? Fishing is exciting. Lake Huites is 105% full, with the two lower lakes, Dominguez and Hidalgo, also full. This is the perfect recipe for unbelievable fishing at Huites this fall. The Ken Wade group of 10 fished Huites Lodge last week and had great results with great numbers of fish up to 9 pounds. Spiinerbaits around the timber and topwater/buzzbaits in the canyon. The senko bite was excellent as well. The fishing at Huites is excellent for numbers of nice fish.

Terry, We fished last Thurs, thru Sat, the first time I have not stayed with your lodge in the past 6 trips to the lake. I want to say the accommodations, staff, boats, and food were all first class. Although the numbers were down from previous trips about 70 to 80 fish a day for our boat, the size of the fish was much better. Our guide Jesus knew the lake and where the better fish were, and also was a great guy besides. He also saved some really good holes for the last day, and we caught big fish in all of them. We had our best fishing in the morning and evening on top water, and Senkos, jigs and lizards any time of the day off the points when the wind blew the fish bit. We hit one big flat hump 3 days in a row two or three times a day and would see 3 to 7 pound fish cruising looking for Tilapia. It was one huge dinner table for the fish. Of the 220 or so fish we caught we had 70 to 80 fish 3.5 to our largest 6.9 and most were 4 to 4.5 clones. The top water bite the last night before dark was like nothing I have ever seen in 35 years. We caught 25 fish in the last hour and had 4 to 5 pound fish fighting over your Sammy if was even in the water 5 seconds you would have fish blasting it. The largest that night was a 6.9. It was incredible. Great time I will definitely be back to your lodge.
Sincerely, John Huscroft

Randy Holly reported excellent numbers of Bass in the main lake and not much action in the Canyons....Topwater only good late but the fluke action for fish up to 6 pounds good all day with 6 inch swimbaits good for bass up to 9 pounds in the TacoPaco/Crues area. Lions Cove and The Clear Creek also doing good for shear numbers with some in the group catching fish over 100 per boat

ur 1st morning was slow by Huites standards as we adjutments were made for post-spawn fishing. We then started fishing a productive pattern that produced countless fish in the 2.5 to 5 lb range. There were many smaller fish and enough larger fish to keep it intersting. My buddy Ron's largest was an 8 lb and I caught a 10.2 lb. These were huge females who had already spawned. Morning and evening topwater bite was good for the first and last hour of the day. White flukes and small crankbaits were VERY effective following the morning topwater bite. As the day heated up we fished deeper with large crankbaits, swimbaits and texas rigged plastic. Senkos and spinnerbaits played a role in rounding out the action. Mike Knight

Wow! What great fishing - just what Huites is supposed to be all about. Some days, it's a little slow, but when it's hot, it's red hot!
Aaron Gore with a group of four who flew in Private to Choix called after the trip saying he was skeptical of the reports he had been reading, only to report that the fishing was actually better than the reports and offerred to talk with anybody that wanted the facts about Lake Huites and Lake Huites Lodge. The fishing was just fantastic. some days catching over 200 bass in a day. Vernon Grizzard's group of four, who flew in in their private jet, on the last day reported excellent results, with multiple 6, 7 and 8s, most on topwater. And of course, using big Senkos and 6 inch swimbaits. Gale Goodman's group of ten just reported 10 lbers caught this morning by some in their group, topwater and Senko fishing excellent, all boats catching between 70 and 80 fish per session.

It was great to get back on the water at Lake Huites, the most beautiful lake in Mexico. Just as the lodge had been reporting, I got to experience some red hot action. It seems as though numbers of fish could be caught almost anywhere on the lake. I personally had my best catches up the Rio Fuerte. Topwater action even in the middle of the day sure was a lot of fun. We are having plenty of fish caught, some boats catching well over 150 per day, with a lot of small fish but we have seen plenty of 6, 7 and 8 lb. fish with a few 10 lbers that we haven't seen with any regularity since 2002. Fran Drexler from Pennsylvania reported catching more 5 lb fish than he could count. His group of six all reported the same type of results. Ronnie Wilkins' group of four all caught fish at rates unheard of for a couple of the novices in his group. It is just amazing the numbers of fish from one end to the other at Lake Huites. With our new private service into Choix, it makes Huites much more acccessible. Although we are sold out for the remainder of February, we have room Spring Break week in March and we hope to see you down there! Group of 14 anglers from Japan fishing the 18th to the 24th had excllent results fishing topwater only with fish up to 9 pounds. Aaron Gore who flew private into Choix.......reported 150 fish days for the boats in his group topwater and swimbaits. Vernon Gizzard just now on the water already have great results on topwater

We just returned from another great trip to Lake Huites. This was our best yet. As usual the accommodations were excellent , the staff was friendly, and the food was great. We really appreciate the great work that Narlin does as camp manager, and that Manuel does as head guide to put you on fish. Now for the fishing report… A few disclaimers: I admit, I have read through some of these reports thinking ‘that can’t be true’. Let me assure you it is. The fishing is so good here; there is no need for exaggerated fish stories! We use tally counters to make sure we keep an accurate count and typically weigh every fish over 5 pounds, as we have friendly bets going among our group. There were four of us. We had the lake all to ourselves, and our understanding was that it had not been fished in a few weeks. It had rained for three straight days before we arrived, so the lake was pretty muddy. Our first day, both boats in our group caught 101 and 102 (a slow day by Huites standards). You can get spoiled pretty quick fishing in Mexico. We caught some good fish, but 50 - 60% were less than a pound (dinks). We were a little worried that it was going to be a slow bite throughout the trip. The next day the fishing picked up to about 150 per boat. The highlight of this day was when we had a great topwater bite in the middle of the day. We had about an hour stretch where we pulled in a bunch of 3 to 6 pounders on chrome chugbugs. They would only hit it standing still on a slow retrieve, but they were killing it! My brother-in-law and me caught back to back 6 ½ pounders. Mine exploded on the bait like a peacock bass, and his jumped completely out of the water and came down on top of the bait. I have never seen anything like it. Other than that exciting run, the topwater bite was slow. The next day we were determined to find the big ones. One of the boats decided to only fish deep holes (20 to 30 feet). Those are hard to find without a graph, but these guides know the lake so well it doesn’t take long to find the “honey holes”. On the 3rd day, the size of fish increased dramatically. We did another 150 per boat with hardly any dinks caught. A ¾ ounce, white spinner bait is what did the trick. We were working up one bank where I caught four, 5 pounders in a row. They absolutely mangled the spinner bait, so bring plenty of extras. Our last day of fishing, I will never forget. We continued on the pattern of fishing deep holes with swim baits, lizards, and spinner baits. We had a good morning of fishing, and we were looking forward to a lunch on the lake shore. We had about two hours to kill before lunch, so we decided to get out of the sun and fish up one of the canyons. We were pitching towards the banks with sinkos catching dinks, but meanwhile my brother-in-law was still working in 30 feet of water fishing a spinner bait on the bottom like a worm. All of the sudden, I hear him yell out “NEW HONEY HOLE!” We proceeded to catch 3-6 pounders on just about every cast for the next 2 hours. My dad caught 48 fish on 48 casts, and that was before he started counting. We were fishing 5” storm swim baits (bunker color). Cast it out, let it go to the bottom, start reeling and you had one on. We caught fish up to 8 and ½ pounds in that spot. My father-in-law was casting a swim bait that was so chewed up, it was basically a hook and weight, and he was still pulling in fish on nearly every cast. We then had our lunch on the shore with an incredible view of a waterfall off in the mountains. Fresh fish and hand cut fries. What a great time. The staff really made my dad feel special on his birthday. The fish sure cooperated too! We went back to the same spot and for 3 hours, literally caught one on every cast until it was time to head back for camp. One boat ended up with 276 for the day, and the other boat was not far behind that number. The hot baits were 5” Storm swim baits (bunker); ¾ ounce white spinner baits; watermelon and pumpkin seed lizards; watermelon candy Flukes, Senkos; tequila and junebug worms; and chrome chugbugs. I can’t wait to come back next year.
Thanks again,
Neal Ford
