This One's Worth Two Pictures!

This magnificent 18.3 pound bass was caught by Mike Hutcherson of Plainview, TX. Rene is holding this fish for Mike. Fish caught using a watermelon 8" Lizard in 14ft of water. When Mike hooked the fish it felt like he was hung in the brush. The fish was caught on Saturday afternoon the 13th of February 2005.

This just in from Jerry Kelley of Dallas, TX. He fished the lake January 24 - 30:
I just wanted to share a little about my recent trip to your lodge at Baccarac. It was one of my better trips to your lodge. We didn't catch alot of really big fish, but we caught hundreds of bass in the 3 to 6lb range and missed several BIG ones and just one fish over 10lbs. I know they will start showing up in the next few days. Our last day on the lake we caught 275 bass between the two of us and the guide. I have fished all over Mexico and never found a better place to fish or lodge, your lodge is 2nd to NONE ! The staff is the best I've found anywhere. The food is excellent and where else in the world can you know with any cast you stand a chance to catch the biggest fish of your life or possibly the next world record. I keep hearing from lots of people who are afraid to go to Mexico and I just don't understand this. It might be dangerous in the border towns and I even agree to this, BUT FOLKS , I assure you, THERE IS NO DANGER IN COMING TO THIS LODGE. So I tell you this if you want to catch not only alot of fish and have a chance at the biggest fish of your life then the only choice is Lake Baccarac, and the ONLY choice for lodging is Lake Baccarac Lodge. FISH ON !! Jerry Kelley
FEBRUARY 3 -
This just in from the lodge: Excellent numbers upriver with 1 to 4 lb. bass on 5 inch watermelon senkos and white medium running Bill Dance crank baits.
The bigger fish are more shallow with the lodge reporting eight fish over 10 lbs. this week. The bigger fish were caught on pearl swim baits.
Since late yesterday afternoon, huge rains have hit the area again. There is a forecast of rain for the next two days. We have more groups arriving today.
FEBRUARY 1 -
Baccarac is heating up! Excellent numbers up the river and Jerry Kelley did land a 10.5 lb. bass on a swimbait. Terry forecasts the big ones are almost here!!
JANUARY 27 - UPDATE FROM THE LODGE:
Huge rains and a cold front that came through on Friday and Saturday, the 22nd and 23, have caused a dramatic change in the fishing. This week has not produced much in the way of fishing results with very few fish caught in shallow or deep water. The water temperature has cooled six degrees in five days. It remains to be seen if the fishing will improve next week. We will keep you updated.

JANUARY 24TH:
Tough fishing Friday and Saturday with very high winds and big rains forcing us off of the lake. However, before the storm, fishing was excellent upriver with fish up the river caught up to 6 lbs. and at the south end of the lake producing fish up to 9 lbs. in deeper water. The bigger fish are moving up slowly and still are a little out of reach.
Jan 14th
THis week has not produced very many big fish but the numbers of small fish in the first 20ft of water is outstanding.... small being 1 to 3 pounds...Eddie Carmon did catch a 11.9 in 25 ft of water and was broke off within minutes after catching that one ......We are marking lots of bigger fish in 45 ft of water. It also seems that most of the shad and talpia are also in 40 to 45ft of Water
JAn 10th
High-quality fishing - countless numbers of 1 to 3 lb. bass and Russ reports a fair number of fish over 8 and seven fish over 10 lbs. The big fish are coming deeper with Carolina rigged watermelon lizards and wacky style 5 inch watermelon senkos. Watermelon jigs along with black and blue 1 oz. jigs produced a good number of quality fish. It seems as though the big fish are moving shallow and we will start seeing more and more trophy bass caught in the next several weeks.
Jan 8th
Leo Osburns group report excellent numbers and also reported a 10.8 amd 9.8 caught on Carolina rigged watermelon Lizzards. Six boats on the water all doing very well with 150 fish being caught per boat
Jan 5th and Jan 6th
Scott Sinclair's group of four had a blow-out day yesterday, January 6.
Although the biggest fish was only an 8.13 (very respectable fish) Scott reported up to 150 fish for his boat with so many 5 and 6 lb. fish, they stopped counting. Little Miguel, who is now guiding for us, has turned out to be an exceptional guide and had the best numbers of the day. Mike Drain's group of eight flew in yesterday direct from Dallas, departed at 8:30 a.m. and were at the lodge at 11:30 a.m. Our private flights direct from Dallas offer the best convenience clients have ever had - short time to get there and luxury all the way. Mike's group fished 1/2 day yesterday and caught phenomenal numbers. Narlin's comment, he feels that the big fish are just about ready to bite.

The last fews days have been excellent with topwater fish early and late. 5 inch senkos in Watermelon along with meduim and small crankbaits. 4 inch swimbaits and junebug worms deeper on the main lake points Fish up to 10 pounds according to Manuel Salazar
Dec 19th
Well, it's official - the big fish are showing up. Russ called in an excellent report with the big fish starting to hit 3/4 oz. and 1 oz. silver-blue rattletraps. Brad Drake landed one over 11, as well as Norm Klayman, with Terry Rader reporting 140 fish for his boat caught mostly on silver/chartreuse rattletraps, and Terry claimed to have lost the biggest fish he has ever seen in his 40 years of bass fishing. Terry missed the big fish using a medium sized chartreuse Excalibur crank bait. John Taylor caught good sized fish, one over 9 lbs., using watermelon worms. Russ Johnson states the fishing is only improving every day now. With some top water, excellent action and big fish showing up now, we can't wait to see what January brings.
Dec 18th
Terry Raders group of 8 reports Great action with big fish showing up. Norman Klayman caiught a 11.1 on a 3/4 oz rattletrap.
Dec 9th
Topwater Explosion!
With the extremely cool weather, with low temperatures in the 40's, the water has cooled off immensely which has created a topwater explosion! This is the topwater action we have been waiting for since October. Russ Jhnson says that the average size fish keeps getting bigger and BIGGER!
December 2nd
The Gil Wright group of eight has fantastic action - 1125 fish in three days of fishing on the lake. Denis Bootenhoff said it was his second best trip to Lake Baccarac, as far as numbers and size.
Nov. 30
We have had an unusually high number of small fish caught at the lake. The key to catching the big fish is, don't get frustrated with the small fish, use your bigger presentations, 8 inch watermelon seed lizards, 6 inch swim baits. Russ and Narlin had the best luck fishing the humps in the main lake. The mornings are getting cool and the water temperature is dropping. I would not be surprised if we see some topwater action shortly. Check the photo gallery because new pictures will be posted soon!

Nov 12th Scott Sagger group
This was my sixth trip to Mexico, my second trip to Lake Baccarac, the first trip being in 2005. This experience was the best I have ever had. Forget about the lodge being beautiful and the food being great. The first two days on the water, fishing by myself with one of the local guides, I was amazed at the numbers of fish that could be caught. I could have easily caught 100 fish on day one and day two, although most were in the 1 to 3 1/2 lb. range. I did manage to eek out a couple of 8 lb. fish. But it seemed like every point, you could have mined for fish for hours. We fished mostly the first two days 6 inch watermelon lizards, throwing close to the bank and working out to 14 feet of water. Very few casts did not produce a fish. The third day, however, was an unbelievable day on the water. I heard the prodding and joking around the camp from Narlin Salazar directed at his brother Manuel that the recent story being written about Manuel about him being anointed as the king of big fish in Mexico So I asked Manuel if he would be my fishing partner on day three. Lucky for me, he chose to forego his obligations to the lodge and insisted that his brother Narlin go as a guide and from that point forward, brotherly joking and ribbing never stopped. After trying some early topwater with no success and Manuel joking and telling his brother that it was time for a different guide, Manuel directed the boat towards a little cove up the river. We made several casts and caught several fish and before anybody realized it, we might have had 40 fish in the boat with the biggest one being 4 1/2 lbs. So with my limited Spanish, I requested that Manuel find me a big fish. He responded back, I have already found the fish; I'm just waiting for you to catch them! And I explained to him, well, so far, they have only been small. Manuel said, okay, I will catch one big one for you. He made a long cast over the point out in just a little bit deeper water and I would not have believed this if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes; he brings in a 9.8 lb. bass. From that point forward, I was amazed at the number of big fish that Manuel caught almost on demand. That day's total in our boat, myself fishing out of the front, Manuel fishing out of the back and Narlin guiding us, we caught in excess of 160 fish - 14 fish over 8 lbs., three fish over 9 lbs. and two fish over 10 lbs. Manuel Salazar is the king of big bass.
Some great news ...New runaway at Bacubirito.

Nov 5th
THe big fish seem to be moving up. Narlin's boat caught 2 9's and 2 over 10 in 15 ft of water using 7 inch watermelon senkos.
All boats reporting great action !!
Nov 4th RED HOT ACTION
Rancho Padre area is producing unbelievable action, with a good number of fish between 4 and 8 1/2 lbs. Every week, we seem to be catching a little bit bigger fish and we have never seen this kind of action at Lake Baccarac.
Narlin Salazar did catch and 11.3 lb.'er on topwater on November 3rd.
Catching 100 fish per day per person is very attainable right now. As the weather cools, we predict more and more topwater action and we are already starting to see a lot of big fish busting shad in the back of the coves.
Wassama area seems to be holding the bigger fish and we are predicting some monsters to be caught out of there very soon. Watermelon lizards, medium running crankbaits are producing the best numbers, along with 5 inch senko style watermelon june bug plastics.

Nov 3rd,
Nurhan Papucciyan and his group from Canada reporting the best bass trip they have ever had with 50 fish person being caught each morning and each afternoon...Watermelon Lizzards producing the best numbers and 4 inch swimbaits producing the larger fish
Steve Rudy just returned from the Lodge and reported the best trip he has ever had in Mexico after making 4 trips to El Salto. Steve's big fish was only 7.5 pounds but the action was world class with Steve getting broke off with a couple of big ones

Nov 1st
Narlin reporting excellent results with very very good numbers caught up the river .

Oct 31st
Les Dawson's boat reported catching 412 bass up to 7.3 pounds in three days on the water. Using crankbaits and watermelon lizzards

Oct 25th
Very good numbers of 3 to 5 pound fish, the best numbers we have seen. Some boats catching over 125 bass for the day!! Caught mostly on Watermelon Lizzards and 5" watermelon senkos rigged wacky.
Note: We have a couple of dates where we are looking for two people on a direct flight into Baccarac for info call Terry direct at 806 679 4433 ( cell )

Oct 22nd
Hurricane Rick had very little effect on the Lake with the water level remaining about the same. The weather is cooling and the topwater bite should start soon

Oct 16, 17, 18th
October 14, Ed Connors fished Lake Baccarac using mainly 8 inch watermelon plastic lizards and he reported excellent results in the 3 - 5 1/2 lb. range. Ed estimated catching between 40 and 45 fish per session with very few small fish, mainly catching 3 1/2 to 5 1/2 bass. Ed had some luck on small citrus shad, gizzard shad, small crankbaits. Wallace Calloway's group arrived Oct. 15 and fished the next three days, through the 18th. Wallace, who has been to the lake many times, reported 40 to 50 fish per boat, most fish being 1 to 5 lbs., not catching any fish over the 5 lb. mark. He used mostly plastics, crankbaits and spinnerbaits. It seems like the big fish are very deep. The local guides have reported catching fish on swimbaits in deeper water - 40 feet - but we have not been able to put the clients on those fish yet. Water temperature is 81 degrees. The lake is currently over 80% full and clear.

Oct 4th to Oct 12th
Quite a bit different year this year than it was last year at this same time. Lots of action on the lake, with good numbers of 1 to 4 lb. bass. If you remember last season at this time, we were only catching big ones. The Eric Gonzales group from Puerto Rico have managed to pull in fish up to 9.2 lbs. Watermelon lizards and five inch Gary Yamomoto senkos in watermelon color, june bug watermelon red preferred by the guides. Small and medium crankbaits in citrus shad and fire tiger working the best. Topwater working only for a short period early morning. The bigger fish have yet to move up from the deep water. The lake is currently about 88% full and very clear.

September 27 - 30 -
I personally just returned from the lodge and the lake and I have the following report: While fishing with Sixto Figeroa, obviously, the numbers are back. Our boat caught 62 fish between 1 1/2 to 4 lbs. on Thursday afternoon. We caught 11 fish between 5 and 8 lbs. This is quite exciting, considering we could not find this size fish most of last season. The bigger fish did not show up for any of us in three days at the lodge, which is not typical for this time of year, but we do except that as the water continues to rise, the big fish will come out of the deep and be at more catchable levels. I can say that fishing lighter line with smaller presentations produced the better numbers. The lake is currently 83% full and rising, with afternoon rains almost daily up in the mountains. We did not see much in cloud cover around the lake. We will have another report in one week.

The weekend of August 8 and 9
We normally don't entertain many guests during the hot, rainy summer months. This year, we are trying something new. Our recent guest from Mexico City, Dominic Luna, described it as a tale of two lakes: Late afternoon, as the rainshowers move in and as the clouds build up, the fishing was nothing short of phenomenal, with Dominic and his friends, along with guide Sixto catching one fish over 14 lbs. on a Rico Pop'r; three fish all within three ounces of the 14 lb. mark on solid chrome Husky Jerk baits. The fish were shallow while the lake was covered with shade from the clouds, so Sixto consistently threw his Revenge solid blue jig right up on the bank and slowly drug it into the water. Over and over and over, he caught the fish feeding on the bank. The clear skies in the morning offered no fish at all, according to the recent group. Dominic said: The morning bite is just terrible.
Yet, every afternoon, the fish they could not find before the rains would show up.

July 23 - July 28 fishing report:
Yes, it was hot and yes, it was rainy...an excellent recipe for the huge Baccarac bass to be shallow. It happens at the same time every season. Our four recent guests just crushed the big fish, with a total of 27 fish over 10 lbs., two of those fish being over 14 lbs. All of the big fish were caught on Magnum watermelon seed lizards. It was reported that in the late afternoon, you could actually see the monsters right against the bank looking for food as the water was rising. When the big fish stopped biting and moved off to the points, throwing big Bill Dance crankbaits led to reports of catching fish after fish. If you can stand the heat and you want to get away for a few days, you should really try some of this summertime fishing.

2008/2009 season summary
What a season it was at Lake Baccarac. Fishing in October started out with nothing but huge fish, literally with a 6 lb. average, sometimes not catching fish under 6 or 7 lbs. for the entire trip. Many personal bests.
Read the report from Bobby Knight, from Gil Wright, from Greg Riggle during the beginning of October 2008. Booking agent Ricky Green came back testifying, this is the best trip I have ever been on fishing 20 years in Mexico, with nine fish over 11 lbs. and 32 fish over 10 lbs. and an estimated 100 fish over 8 lbs. on his October 21st trip. Ricky wrote to us, saying Baccarac is just an incredible place. With the late October hurricane, the lake was flooded and fishing changed dramatically. Clients were still landing plenty of big fish, but numbers of fish caught were very low. With the high water and high population of shad, it was very hard at times to get the bass interested in biting artificial lures. There were many isolated stories about excellent numbers and excellent big fish, but after October, there were many challenging days on the water. Gil Wright, who is a monthly guest at the camp, had a great trip in November, catching 13 over 10 lbs. and 36 over 9 lbs. Go back and read Tom Redington's report from the first of December - unbeliveable big fish action. Predicting the numbers would pick up at some point, we did not really see great action again until June, although all during the season, without a doubt, the average big fish this season was larger than the average big fish last season. We started the new year out January 1 with multiple 14 lb. fish. We continued to have sometimes unbelievable action and incredible numbers, but sometimes we had neither. All of this was contributed to by the overpopulation of shad and the high water all season. Please go back and read the corresponding reports. In summary, by the time late May and June came around, Baccarac was repeating what it had done the year before. As a forecast for next season, we look for great fishing. We saw an incredible spawn in the spring of 2009. Those new fish will absolutely devour the excess shad in the lake. Baccarac, without a doubt, is and will remain the best bass lake in Mexico.

Joe McDaniel fishing mostly deep inlands with topwater averaged two fish over 10 a day and and had very good numbers running the banks using wacky style 5 inch senkos . Joe reports" just tons of bait fish in the lake this year but the bigger fish are still biting in the clear water"
May 24th Overall the last few days have very tough according to Russ at the Lodge. Numbers can be caught running the banks with Wacky senkos but the bigger fish near structureare not biting that good.
Manual Salazar fishing the deep structure is having some luck with bigger fish using 6 inch swimbaits.

Big Rain on the 20th at Lake Baccarac...It looks to be starting early
It's been proven that before and after the full moon, the fishing is markedly different. To illustrate, Kent Newsome's report and Earl Rideau's reports are below. They were both at the lodge from May 3 - 10. These reports both prove that fishing before the full moon is quite productive.
After full moon:
Now we get to the full moon and afterwards. The day of the full moon, there were several big fish caught but the numbers were down.
Three days after the full moon, fishing had slowed quite a bit but Gil Wright, making another trip down to the lodge, broke his personal best, landing a 14.5. From May 11 to 17, a week's worth of fishing, Gil boat caught 22 fish over 10 lbs.
Before full moon:
Kent Newsome: I just wanted to give you an update of my recent trip to the fabulous lake baccarac. In the six days that I fished with the Ed LaRose group I caught the following monsters: Day 1 - 8.5 and 6.5; Day 2 - 8.6, 10.1, 11.8, 7.8, 8.6 and a 9.15, Day 3 - 9.10; Day
4 - 11.11, 10.15, 8.0, 7.0, 7.6 and 11.7 and lastly, Day 5 - 10.12 and a
12.8 pound monster.
As you can see I had a FANTSTIC fishing experience and the guides, service and staff were all great. Special thanks to guides Sixto and Pedro. The absolute best bait fo me during the trip was 5” white storm swim bait. With
1 ½ oz rattle trap running a close second. Also my ESOX rods proved to be a great match for those Lake Baccarac monsters. Thanks again for a great trip!
From Earl Rideau
In my email last night I failed to mention that Tachi went out with me in the afternoon three times and he caught a 13.13, 13.4, 13.2, 12.7 and a 10.3. Just thought you might want to know if you were keeping track of the number of fish over 10.

from Ron Dameron April 11 - 15 : Terry and Cheryl, wanted to give you all a report on our 3 days of fishing trip April 11-15. Larry and I had a slow first day and a half but it picked up the last day and a half. I had an 8.8 and 10.2 the first morning and a 8.75, 9.6 that afternoon, Larry had several 7’s and his largest the first day was an 8.5. Day two I started out with another 10 even and a 9.3 kinda slowed down but we caught numerous 4 to 6’s Larry got a 9.5. On the last day my first two fish was an 8.5 and a 10.4 we moved around after that for awhile and picked up a few more in the 4 to 6 pound range. That evening Jesus found some schooling fish and in consecutive casts I caught a 4.5, 6.5 and a 10.10 several casts later I caught a 9.5. We ended up catching 110 fish for the three days. By the way 3 of the 10’s were caught on flukes the 4th was on a Carolina rigged 8” magnum lizard. The staff did a good job as did the pilot who did a good job landing with the wind we had coming in on Saturday. Hope to do it again soon.

March 3 - update from Russ Johnson at the lodge:
Alan Sharp from Pampa, TX caught three fish over 10 lbs. Most boats catching 80 fish per day, excellent day on the water at Lake Baccarac Lodge!
The fish are concentrated in the back of the coves; using watermelon lizards and white spinnerbaits is producing the best numbers, while the big fish are coming on suspending swimbaits. We look forward to having you down at the lodge!
March 3 - from Terry: Wow! What an incredible big fish day with Greg Riggle catching two fish over 11 lbs.!
Gustavo Alameda and his friend Paco came all of the way from Spain to fish Baccarac and they say that this is the best fishing trip of their lives. Since arriving last Friday, they have caught six fish over 10 lbs.
James Bradley's group out of Texas also caught two fish over 12 lbs. I'm sure James, who was not able to come with them, will be mad he could not make the trip!
Lures: White spinnerbatits, 1 oz. are will the hot lure. Many boats are catching 80 fish a day.
March 2: The Mike Wilson, whose group fished Feb. 27 - March 1, reports: "We had another great trip. Not as many fish as last year, but not bad. We had 4 fish over 10 and 4 over 9 lbs. We also had boats that caught up to 80 fish a day. The food and service were fist class. Hot weather and cold margaritas just go together. We can't wait until next year. Thanks for everything."
The weather is HOT! Close to 100 degrees but a cool front is expected to move in in the the next day or so.
We have seats on several charters out of El Paso this month that we need to fill. Call the office if you are interested for dates.

FEB 24th Steve Chimes reported 125 bass today with the biggest fish 8.9 and many good 5 pound bass . The best producing bait was salt pepper KUT TAIL fished wacky style along 5 inch Storm Swim baits . The structure near the damn is holding the bigger fish according to Steve
The lake was red hot last week at the beginning of the week but did not produce much of anything on Thursday, Friday Saturday ...But Sunday and Monday the true form of Huites was back alive with several 8 pound fish caught and numbers topping 100 fish per boat. The warmer weather has made the days near perfect.

Feb. 20 and 21 - Fishing was very slow these two days, with most boats only catching 65 fish per day.
From the lodge, Feb. 19: Excellent results, fish over 10 lbs. being caught on white spinnerbaits by Peter Riley while filming Aaron Outdoors TV show. The fishing continues to get better.
February 15 report: Jeff Pope's group returning from a fantastic adventure at Lake Huites Lodge, fishing six days. Even with back-to-back cold fronts, Jeff reports catching betwen 80 and 120 fish per day. Areas toward the dam are hodling the bigger fish. Although Jeff'e group struggled to get any real trophies, they did manage and reported several fish 6 to 7 lbs. Mike Knight's big group had the advantage at the lodge this week - they were lucky enough to corral Manuel Salazar as their guide and reported several fish over 8 lbs. with unbelievable numbers caught during the day. Five inch swimbaits and five inch Senkos produced the best. Fish continue to be moving up for the spawn and the catch rates for topwater will only increase for the next two to three weeks.
From Feb. 10 - The fishing at Huites remains fantastic! 6 inch Storm pearl swimbaits producing all of the big fish. Terry Hollan personally caught four over 7 and four over 8 on Feb. 9 on the two hours he was out on the lake. Mike Roberts group catching between 80 and 100 fish per day per boat, 1/2 oz. white spinnerbaits working well in the canyons and the best action in the LaCruz and the aquarium area of the lake. Average size fish is 3 lbs., fish up to 10 lbs. being caught.

Feb 3rd to Feb 5th THe very cool mornings have really excited the bass and have made for some really red hot topwater action. Fishing with Pop'rs and spittin images the topwater bite has been very good in the canyons. With the lodge full of clients the last several weeks we have had many happy faces returning from there trips. Most boats catching 70 to 150 a day with many mid size bass caught evryday and someone has been touching the 10 pound mark almost every session.
6 inch Storm SWimbaits have produced the bigger fish which have come from a little deeper water. 1/2 oz white spinnerbaitsand critus SHad crankbaits have produced the best numbers.
Jan 25 th Feb3rd
Absolutely incredible results from Lake Huites!
We have always expected lots of numbers when we fish at Huites but now, we have unbelievable numbers and great size. Jeff Avery caught 17 fish over 9 lbs during his five-day trip to Lake Huites. Venny Della Pello broke the 10 lb. mark. Rick Zugschwerdt had an incredible trip - countless numbers of 5 to 9 lb. fish. Boats are easily catching 80 to 120 fish per day, more 5, 6 , 7 and 8 lb. fish than we have ever seen come from this lake. Topwater fishing in the canyons is currently at a premium and every indication looks like the fishing will only improve. It is absolutely necessary, if you have the opportunity, to fish Lake Huites this season. Please note: there are many opportunities for groups of two to fly directly to Choix over the next several weeks. I hope to see you at the lake!

Jan 11th to Jan 19th at Lake Baccarac Lodge : Over the last week we have hit both ends of the fishing spectrum at Lake Baccarac. The fishing is great but the catching is very challenging. Myself, I had the best ½ day the water I had in a couple of years catching a 11, 10, 9 the first hour of fishing Tuesday the 13th of January that was only after catching 2 total fish the day before. Mike Price in two days on the water at Lake Baccarac his five biggest fish weighed over 55 pounds but others in his group struggled. Alberto Smith from Reading, PA came down to catch a trophy and went home with an 11.8 after fishing for 6 days. Downsizing and going small was the answer for me a 4 inch rootbeer colored senko worked for my big fish. Mike Price used a mostly 4 inch watermelon flukes. This pattern did not hold the next day and the big fish and actually all the fish became very hard to find. There are just tons of fish suspending in open water (100ft of open water) using electronics you can see the big bass suspending underneath the thick layer of shad. We have been able to find plenty of smaller fish on the banks and concentrated on the inlands in front of the lodge. Very few big fish are mixed with the smaller fish at this time in the shallow water.
The fishing has been very slow at times....
Report for JAn 20th: downsizing and fishing shallow did produce better numbers today boats catching 25 to 30 bass between 2 and 8 pounds with only 1 fish over 11 pounds Larry Person caught 11.8 on 1/2 oz white spinnerbait. Report from Russ Johnson at the Lodge on Jan 21st: Cool morning but warming very quickly. We have had some cloud cover lasting until midafternoon. Catching 30 bass a up to 9 pounds using mostly 5 inch watermelon senkos, they don't like the 7 inch senko this year. White 1/2 oz spinnerbaits producing fish on the bank but these bank fish don't have much size. The water level is starting to drop about 6 inchs a da. We are locating many bass suspending in 100ft of water not relating to any structure at al. Topwater is very spotty!!! Morning report From Jan 22nd most boats catching 15 fish this morning Dan Peirson caught 2 over 10 pounds fishing the long points. Russ reports a little better bite on the points this morning. THe afternoon of the 22nd. sticking with the morning pattern did find fish once again Long points are holding good numbers of fish. Our Guides Pedro and Sixto have been finding the bestbite. 4 inch Basstrix swimbaits are working very well along with Gary Yamamoto rootbeer senkos. THe JAn 23rd fishing report the mornings continue to be cool until lunch. The fishing/catching the past two mornings has been much better early morning with senkos, flukes, small swimbaits. A few topwater fish but not many early morning. The afternoon bite has been very slow and no patterns seem to work as the fish move out in deeper water. We are seeing many bass in the 30 ft suspended in with the shad.

Early in the week the fishing was good as we had lots of cloud cover. THe high blue skies have really slowed down the fishing. MIke Drain and his group did pull 4 over 10 from the Lake this afternnon the 10th of January. It does seem that the shad in the lake are just much more attractive than the lures. More reports will be coming soon.
We are filming TV shows are both Huites and Baccarac with hook.TV .. this coming week
January 14 - FROM TERRY HOLLAN AT THE LODGE WHILE FILMING:
First day of filming, January 12, fishing was absolutely a bust. We were fishing with big lures in deep water, looking for the big fish and ended up the day with only four fish caught with four anglers fishing. The fishing Jan. 13th - much improved as we downsized fishing with 4 inch rootbeer color senkos in shallow water, after realizing the bite is very subtle and almost nonexistent. I caught an 11, a 10 and a 9, which were all caught on camera and will be on the show HookTV, hosted by John Diestch. We had a phenomenal morning, 50 fish cuaght, many fish between 6 to 11 lbs. The fish are the most finicky I have ever seen on Lake Baccarac. Altough our boat had an incredible morning, we did have two boats that struggled with almost no fish. It is definitely a case of being in the right place at the right time when the fish decide to feed. If you need further reports, please call us and you can get ahold of me directly in Mexico.

Happy New Year! Four clients returning to the US from the lodge - Gil Wright, Denis Bootenhoff, Shane Ryal and his son - all caught their personal best! The numbers are still low but the ones caught are big! Gil Wright 13.6, Dennis Booterhoff 11.13 ..The bigger fish are in 25 ft water laying underneath the shad, You can run the banks right now wth Watermelon lizzards and catch the smaller fish in good numbers.....Chino, Sixto and Narlin have all been on the water last several days. Russ Johnson report from he Lodge " We have had 3 days of improving catch rates. The 5 inch senkos seem to be the ones producing much better than the 7 inch. We have starting picking up the bigger fish in more shallow water mixed with the bank runners. I caught a nice 11.3 on a senko late afternoon and Narlin caught 2 fish over 11 on 5 inch senkos" The water temp is now below 67 degrees ( I have no idea if that matters ) Jan 6th report --half day fishing 5 inch senkos, 1/2 oz spinnerbaits, 4 inck swimbaits, and Rico Poprs.. Numbers are picking up providing you stay after it hard. We are finding alot more fish on the bank now and a few bigger fish mixed in with those smaller fish Overall slow big we did land 4 over 10 on topwater late yesterday fishing off the points near the rehab area.. Our guide Pedro seems to be on the best bite. Jan 7th the morning The best 1/2 day report in sometime. Gil Wright 13.6, Dennis Booterhoff 11.13 ..The bigger fish are in 25 ft water laying underneath the shad, You can run the banks right now wth Watermelon lizzards and catch the smaller fish in good numbers.....Chino, Sixto and Narlin have all been on the water last several days
Russ Johnson report from he Lodge " We have had 3 days of improving catch rates. The 5 inch senkos seem to be the ones producing much better than the 7 inch. We have starting picking up the bigger fish in more shallow water mixed with the bank runners. I caught a nice 11.3 on a senko late afternoon and Narlin caught 2 fish over 11 on 5 inch senkos" The water temp is now below 67 degrees ( I have no idea if that matters )
We have big groups arriving today and tommorrow so please stay posted to the report page

Returned safe and sound from our Baccarac trip, first class service as always and awesome bass size more than made up for the slower number of bites than normal. Our group was looking for size and we definitely found it. Our 6 guys in 3 boats totaled 10 fish over 10 lbs and 32 over 8 lbs in 4 days. In my boat, each day we had phenomenal 5 fish limits of 46.5, 44, 42, and 45 lbs. On the last day, Jay and Gary combined for a 5 fish limit of 49.5 lbs with a 10-15, 10-8, 10-4, 10-4, & 7-8. What a day!! 3 anglers came with the sole mission of catching their first 10 lb’er and all accomplished the feat. Chad and Jay each caught two 10s, while Gary caught 4 over ten. Overall the size was awesome, with all but 1 of our anglers catching a bass over 9 lbs. Overall, our biggest bass were 11-5 for me, 11-4 for Chad, and 10-15 for Gary. Numbers of bass remained low, but almost all of the fish being caught are big, with only a few under 4 lbs caught the entire trip and the average size running around 6 or 7 pounds. Just unbelievable average size—if I hadn’t witnessed it myself, I wouldn’t have believed it. . Top baits were chrome Zara Spook or Chug Bug style topwaters and white soft plastic swimbaits like Basstrix style paddle tails or Live Magic Shads. Casting to schooling fish and points with bushes were our best patterns.
Also From Eddie Herr ..Just from a great trip to your Lodge. Great service and the Lodge lay out is prefect. As predicted the numbers of fish caught were low but the size was unreal. In three days my 15 largest fish weighed 141 pounds. Fished mostly with all SEBILE crankbaits "the jerk minnow" ..The best overall trip I have been on in 15 years to Mexico

First of all I want to start by thanking all the staff and guides for working so hard for making this a wonderful trip. The water is just starting to drop, so the numbers should continue to rise. As for our group, it was very tough fishing as we only received 10 to 15 bites per day. On the other end of this, all of the bites we received were from very big fish. Numbers wise for our group, we had 35 fish over 7 pounds, 25 fish over 8 pounds, 17 fish over 9 pounds, 8 over 10 pounds, 6 fish over 11 pounds, and 2 fish over 12 pounds. (Awesome trip for big fish) Most of the fish caught were on 4 to 6 inch swimbaits - shad pattern, and 7 inch flukes - solid white or baby bass pattern, and a few topwater fish. Looks like the old guys kicked the young guys butts!! Some of the guys listed had their personal best fish of a lifetime:

  • Alek Loukas 12.6
  • Jerry Andrus 11.14
  • Judd Hightower 11.4
  • Rhett Blandford 11.4
  • Jodi Coker 12.14

Congratulations Jodi for big bass of the trip! 2 ounces more and you would of had a teenager! Great fish anyway. We are already trying to plan a trip to go back, we would to be there in one month, the fishing should be dynamite.

From David Lundsford The numbers were down compared to past trips but the size of the fish caught was incredible. In four days we caught well over 100 fish that weighed 7lbs or more. The topwater bite was outstanding.I have never experienced big bass exploding on a topwater bait the way they did this trip. I can't say enough about Manuel our guide, the food, the accommodations, the staff and Russ is always helpful and fun to talk to. Can't wait to go back in April. David Lunsford
From the Gil Wright Group fishing the 28th to Nov 2nd ...." THe best and worst of times " some very slow fishing at times but also some very excellent results
Gil's group caught 13 fish over 10 pounds, 36 over 9 pounds,, Great fishing for big fish!!!!!
Sam Wade- Fishing mainly around the inlands and the submerged brush topwater fishing was good with some fish up to 11 pounds. Using 15 year old 9 inch sluggos fishing was excellent. THe bite is very slow but the weightless sluggos produced a fish almost ever 4th or 5th cast. Never have I caught so many fish over 6 pounds at one brush pile. I highly reccommend Alonzo as a guide
From Terry Hollan We still have lots of high water and we need the water level to drop about 5 ft and we need a weather change. The high water conditions are still causing a very slow bite!
Nov 5th results: excellent according to Narlin Salazar ....With chatter baits producing the biggest fish with Morris Shaw catching 13.8 and 10.7 ......all boats landed huge bass but still very little topwater
Nov 6th results: Big fish again and the numbers are getting better. The water is coming down off the brush and the activity has increased. Suspending Rattling Rogue"s produced the best numbers and the biggest fish with 7 fish over 10 pounds caugh. Guide Alonzo was again the best guide on the water
Tommy Baxter report We caught 27 fish from 6.8-10.14. One of the guys we flew with caught a 13.7

All the things y'all have been telling me are more than true. I have been doing this for 20 years and this trip is the best I have ever been on. The lodge, guides, rooms, boats, help, charter, etc. I didn't have a single person gripe about anything and it is a good feeling when all the faces have smiles on them.
A update on the fishing - the high water, the fish were scattered but most of the guys caught 20 to 30 a day. Maybe 30 or 40 under 6 lbs for the whole group. The big fish was 12lbs 4 ozs the group all had accurate scales and wrote down any over 8 lbs. There were 9 over 11 lbs, 32 over 10lbs, 55 over 9lbs and probably 100 over 8lbs. My first day I caught 2-9s, 2-10s, 1- 11 1/2 and several 8s

We just reurned This report covers the first two groups. Greg Riggle's group of 8 reported the best big fishing trip they have ever had in Mexico with daily catches of no fish under 6 lbs. Rick Glisseneorf - first day ever to bass fish caught an 11.9 and an 11.2 with his fishing partner, Dave Riggle, catching a 12.3. Photos are now posted at the lodge. Along with that, Greg himself caught a 12.9.Very high water with the lake being over 100% full has created the numbers of fish to be down but the best size we've seen. Coach Bobby Knight's group of 16 having the same results as the Riggle group. Jim Lewis, Mark Dalise, Bobby Knight - in the first 1/2 day of fishing all landed their personal best. Jim Lewis commenting it was the best size he'd ever seen.
Gary Whitehead arrived on Oct 7th with his friend Floyd Brown and landed 4 fish over 10 the first 6 casts. THe fish are scattered but the size remains unreal. Our good friend Mr Harada from Japen is just having a trip with 9 fish over 10 pounds the first two days on the water. this just in from Kelly Dunn,,,,TOPWATER has started with Kelly Catching 20 fish on topwater caught the afternoon of the 10th ad 10 of those fish weighing over 8 pounds
